Bweela Steptoe is a Brooklyn-based fashion designer, technical fashion specialist, tailor, patternmaker, and creative entrepreneur with more than two decades of experience in the fashion industry. Her expertise spans fashion design, garment construction, technical flats, tech packs, patternmaking, tailoring, product development, and custom apparel — guiding projects from initial concept through production.

Raised in a family of artists, Bweela developed an early appreciation for creativity, craftsmanship, and storytelling through design. She is the daughter of the late John L. Steptoe, the Caldecott Medal-winning author and illustrator best known for Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters. His artistic legacy continues to inspire her commitment to creating meaningful work that celebrates culture, individuality, and creative expression.

Known for transforming denim and textiles into one-of-a-kind wearable art, Bweela combines technical precision with artistic vision. Her work emphasizes thoughtful construction, innovative design, and exceptional fit — resulting in garments that are both expressive and functional.

In addition to designing original collections, Bweela provides technical fashion services for emerging designers, fashion brands, and entrepreneurs — including technical flats, tech packs, patternmaking, garment development, sample development, tailoring, and product development consulting.

Beyond fashion, Bweela is a certified Kundalini Yoga instructor and educator who believes creativity and wellness are deeply connected. Whether designing garments, teaching, or consulting, her mission is to empower others through craftsmanship, innovation, and conscious living.
